The Chief Technology Officer (CTO)/Chief Operating Officer (COO) role is a senior leadership opportunity to shape company-wide technical direction, collaborate with stakeholders in Japan, and drive innovation across web systems, digital transformation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical decision-making in a multilingual and multicultural environment.
Responsibilities
Lead the overall technology strategy and ensure high technical quality across company projects
Review and guide system architecture for large-scale web system projects and specialised digital transformation solutions
Drive research and the practical application of AI to improve performance and create competitive advantages
Build a long-term technology roadmap aligned with the company’s growth vision
Lead the selection of core technologies, frameworks, and programming languages for each stage of development
Establish and standardise software development processes, including Agile, Scrum, and Development and Operations (DevOps) practices
Lead, inspire, and develop engineering and software architecture teams while promoting a culture of learning and innovation
Requirements
Japanese proficiency at Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level or equivalent, with the ability to work directly with Japanese-speaking partners and clients
Experience in information technology outsourcing for the Japan market
Strong understanding of Japanese working culture, quality standards, and client expectations
Strong expertise in system architecture, with a broad full-stack perspective covering web, mobile, and cloud technologies
Practical knowledge of and experience in digital transformation and AI-related projects
Ability to handle complex technical issues directly when required
Strong leadership capabilities, strategic thinking, and confident decision-making skills
Excellent negotiation, persuasion, and technical presentation skills in Vietnamese and Japanese
Experience working in Japan or within a large information technology organisation serving the Japan market is preferred
